- In 2022, there were 1,002 farms in Cochise County, down 7% from 1,083 in 2017. The number of farms in 2022 was the lowest since 2002.
- Despite the decline in the number of farms, the total land in farms countywide was up 6%, over the 5-year period, to 1,035,831 acres--the most since 1997 (that year, Cochise County had 1,260,021 acres of farmland, which was down from 1,891,644 in 1992).
- The average size of farms in Cochise County in 2022 was 1,034 acres, up 15% from 899 in 2017. The average farm size in 2022 was also the highest since 1997 (that year, the average farm size in Cochise County was 1,529 acres, which was down from 2,276 acres in 1992).
- The total market value of agriculture products sold in 2022 was $340.5 million, up 135% from 2017. The average per Cochise County farm was $339,848, up 154%.
- Crops accounted for 66% of Cochise County agriculture sales in 2022, while livestock accounted for 34% (compared to 57% crops and 43% livestock in 2017).
- Cochise County's top crop items in 2022, by acreage, were corn for grain; forage (hay/haylage); pecans; and pistachios. Top livestock inventory were cattle and calves, layers, horses and ponies, and goats.
